I inherited my grandmother’s old box kiln when I was 18. She purchased it when my dad was a boy, and he remembered enough to get me started in the garage. With it came boxes of vintage copper pieces, dried tubes of chemicals, and glass jars of powdered glass. These relics were the tools that began my journey into enameling. Over the past ten years I have complemented this art with other jewelry fabrication techniques and I am constantly experimenting with new methods.
My inspiration draws mainly from the nature of enamel itself. Each color has a unique texture and behaves distinctively when fired in the kiln. I love discovering new enamel combinations that balance the individual colors and patterns harmoniously. I mostly utilize simple shapes and settings in order to focus attention on the brilliance and depth of each color and to invite inspection of the enamels’ subtle details.
